Dietary inflammatory index and cancer risk in the elderly: A pooled-analysis of Italian case-control studies

Indulgence in pro-inflammatory foods may favor the development of cancer in older men and women.

This meta-analysis reviewed the findings of published studies that focused on the inflammatory potential of a diet and its relationship with cancer incidence in the elderly. More than 17,000 men and women took part in these published studies.

Researchers pointed out that the risk of developing different forms of cancer moved in the upward direction among elderly individuals on high inflammatory diets. Based on the data from this study, it can safely be concluded that fondness for pro-inflammatory foods may promote the development of cancer in elderly men and women.
