Androgenic alopecia is associated with higher dietary inflammatory index and lower antioxidant index scores

Men fond of eating pro-inflammatory foods tend to have a high probability of ending up with androgenic alopecia (male-patterned baldness).

This study looked at how the inflammatory potential of a diet affects a man's chances of having androgenic alopecia (male-patterned baldness). Data on the diets and prevalence of male-patterned baldness among 9,647 men were obtained from validated questionnaires.

A 10% reduction in the risk of androgenic alopecia was found among consistent consumers of antioxidant-containing foods in this study. On the other hand, regular ingestion of pro-inflammatory foods increased a man's odds of having male-patterned baldness by 4%. The findings of this study emphasized the benefits of dietary intake of antioxidants in lowering a man's chances of suffering from androgenic alopecia.
