The relationship between ultra processed food consumption and premature coronary artery disease: Iran premature coronary artery disease study (IPAD)

Eating a diet rich in ultra-processed foods may make an individual highly vulnerable to suffering from premature coronary artery disease.

This study threw more light on the role high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) play in the development of premature coronary artery disease (PCAD). A total of 2,354 Iranian men and women enrolled for this study and volunteered dietary and health information through validated questionnaires.

Researchers found out that consistent intake of ultra-processed foods raised an individual's chances of being diagnosed with premature coronary artery disease. "Higher consumption of UPFs was related to increased risk of PCAD and higher chance of having severe PCAD in Iranian adults," the authors noted.
