Alcohol consumption and all-cause mortality: an analysis of general practice database records for patients with long-term conditions
Heavy drinking of alcohol may bump up mortality risk in individuals suffering from a chronic disease.
This study aimed to understand the relationship between alcohol usage and the risk of dying from chronic diseases. Researchers reviewed 14-years worth of data on the alcohol drinking habits and mortality rates of 95,991 men and women from the United Kingdom.
Researchers observed that the odds of suffering from deaths arising from chronic diseases went up with increased intake of alcohol. This study highlighted the contribution of heavy drinking of alcohol to the high mortality burden associated with different chronic diseases.
