Association between dietary anthocyanidins intake and depression among US adults: a cross-sectional study (NHANES, 2007-2010 and 2017-2018)

High dietary exposure to anthocyanins may help shield an individual from experiencing depressive symptoms.

This study examined the relationship between the consumption of anthocyanin-rich foods and the occurrence of depression in US adults. Researchers matched dietary choices with the incidence of depression in a study population comprising of a total of 6,845 US men and women.

Researchers discovered that participants on diets low in anthocyanin-containing foods were highly likely to suffer from depression. This study demonstrated that frequent intake of foods high in anthocyanins may help to ward off depression.
