Independent and combined associations of dietary antioxidant intake with bone mineral density and risk of osteoporosis among elderly population in United States
Choosing a diet rich in foods packed with antioxidants may give rise to strong bones and hinder the occurrence of osteoporosis in older men and women.
This research work looked at the influence of dietary intake of antioxidant-containing foods on bone mineral density and osteoporosis incidence in elderly men and women. Researchers assessed 5,618 US elderly men and women with regards to the prevalence of osteoporosis, food choices, and bone mineral density in the study population.
Researchers found out that habitual consumption of antioxidant-rich foods strengthened the bones and consequently resulted in a decline in osteoporosis rates. Based on the data from this study, it can safely be concluded that adopting a high antioxidant diet may lead to stronger bones and lesser risk of osteoporosis in older adults.
