Consumption of ultra-processed foods decreases the quality of the overall diet of middle-aged Japanese adults
The addition of ultra-processed foods may lower the overall quality of a diet.
This study evaluated how the inclusion of ultra-processed foods can affect the quality of diets consumed by adults. Researchers conducted a meticulous analysis on the composition of the diets of 617 Japanese men and women within the age bracket of 30-59 years.
Researchers discovered that increasing the quantity of ultra-processed foods in a diet reduced the overall quality of the diet. "Our findings show that higher consumption of ultra-processed foods was associated with decreased dietary quality among Japanese adults," the authors concluded.
