Association of ultra-processed food intake with severe non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a prospective study of 143073 UK Biobank participants

Fans of ultra-processed foods may have a high tendency of suffering from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

This study investigated whether fondness for ultra-processed foods is associated with the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The study population consisted of 143,073 men and women recruited from the UK Biobank Cohort.

Researchers noted that participants at the top of the ultra-processed food consumption ladder had the highest risk of having severe non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This study concluded that generous ingestion of ultra-processed foods may lead to the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
