Association between dietary fiber intake and suicidal ideation: a cross-sectional survey

Loading our plates with fiber-containing foods regularly may help us ward off suicidal thoughts.

This study assessed the association between eating a high fiber diet and the likelihood of having suicidal thoughts (ideation). Data on the food choices and incidence of suicidal ideation of 21,865 American men and women were obtained through validated dietary and mental health questionnaires respectively.

Researchers discovered that optimal dietary intake of fiber decreased an individual's chances of having suicidal thoughts. This study supports the consumption of fiber-rich foods as a dietary measure to prevent suicidal ideation.
