The Risk of Oral Cancer and the High Consumption of Thermally Processed Meat Containing Mutagenic and Carcinogenic Compounds

Upping the intake of red and processed meats may raise an individual's likelihood of having oral (mouth) cancer.

This study aimed to determine the role high dietary ingestion of red and processed meats plays in the development of oral (mouth) cancer. Researchers matched red and processed meat intake levels with oral cancer diagnosis status.

Researchers discovered that the risk of developing oral cancer rose significantly with increase in the rate of consumption of red and processed meats, such as smoked, dried, roasted, and boiled meat. This study pointed out that fondness for red and processed meats may promote the development of cancerous cells and tumors in the mouth.
