Physical activity during pregnancy and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis

Engaging in physical activity, especially in the first and second trimester, can help curb the development of gestational diabetes in pregnant women.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to review the results of published studies that seek to uncover the role of physical activity in the prevention of gestational diabetes in pregnant women. Researchers sifted through evidence obtained from studies that appeared in 6 databases.

Physically active pregnant women were found to have lower risk of suffering from gestational diabetes than their counterparts living a sedentary lifestyle. This study affirmed that physical activity, particularly in the first and second trimester, can help halt the development of gestational diabetes in pregnant women.
