Association between the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index and periodontitis in US adults: a cross-sectional analysis

Adequate intake of foods loaded with antioxidants may help combat the development of periodontitis in men and women.

This study was carried out to confirm the protective effect of high antioxidant diet against periodontitis. The study population included 7,471 US adults who took part in the 2009-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Researchers observed that participants who consumed the highest amounts of antioxidant-containing foods had the lowest risk of developing periodontitis. Evidence from this study showed that the odds of evading periodontitis may favor generous consumers of antioxidant-rich foods.
