Ultra-processed food consumption and increased risk of metabolic syndrome in Korean adults: A cross-sectional analysis of the KNHANES 2016-2020

The odds of suffering from metabolic syndrome may be stacked against devout consumers of ultra-processed foods.

This study assessed the connection between frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods and the subsequent development of metabolic syndrome. More than 20,000 Korean men and women aged 19 years and above volunteered dietary and health information for this study.

Researchers observed that elevated intake of ultra-processed foods resulted in a hike in metabolic syndrome risk in men and women. This study suggested that embracing a diet rich in ultra-processed foods may foster the development of metabolic syndrome in men and women.
