Inflammatory potential of diet is associated with cognitive function in an older adult Korean population

Opting for a pro-inflammatory diet may diminish cognitive function in elderly men and women.

This study looked at the impact habitual consumption of pro-inflammatory foods can have on cognitive function in older men and women. With the aid validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collected and examined data on the dietary habits of 239 Korean men and women above the age of 64 years. The assessment of the cognition of all the participants was frequently done using mini-mental state examination questionnaires.

Researchers discovered that regular ingestion of pro-inflammatory foods resulted in a decline in cognitive function. The findings of this study indicate that embracing a diet heavy on pro-inflammatory foods may worsen cognitive function in elderly men and women.
