Plant-based diets, mediating biomarkers, and mortality risk among adults with diabetes or prediabetes

Boarding the healthy plant food train may decrease our probability of suffering from deaths arising from the complications of prediabetes and diabetes.

The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between adhering to a plant-based diet and mortality risk from prediabetes or diabetes. Researchers tracked the dietary habits and number of deaths recorded among 12,682 men and women over a 7-year period. Up to 1,917 participants died during the course of the study.

Death toll from prediabetes and diabetes was low among participants on diets that encourage the intake of healthy plant foods. This study showed that regularly filling our plates with healthy plant foods may reduce our risk of developing and dying from prediabetes and diabetes.
