Smoking and Bladder Cancer: A Systematic Review of Risk and Outcomes.
Cigarette smokers may be highly vulnerable to bladder cancer.
This study investigated the relationship between cigarette smoking and the odds of developing urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. Researchers analyzed 34 studies that examined the link between smoking and bladder cancer.
Researchers observed a two to fourfold rise in the odds of urothelial carcinoma of the bladder was associated with smoking. In contrast, cessation of smoking was found to cut down urothelial cancer risk in this study. Data from this study suggest that cigarette smoking may accelerate the development of bladder cancer.
