Adopting a diet high in ultra-processed foods, such as ham/sausage, instant noodles, ice cream, and carbonated beverages, may make an individual vulnerable to having type 2 diabetes.
This study investigated the link between ultra-processed food consumption and an individual's odds of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A total of 7,348 Korean adults enrolled for this study and their diets and type 2 diabetes diagnosis status were assessed using validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records.
Researchers noticed that consumers of ultra-processed foods, such as ham/sausage, instant noodles, ice cream, and carbonated beverages, tend to end up with type 2 diabetes. The findings of this study showed that sticking to a high ultra-processed food diet may put an individual on the path to developing type 2 diabetes.
