Frequent consumption of whole grains may help to fend off periodontitis in men.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of periodontitis in relation to the consumption of fiber-rich foods, such as whole grains. Researchers tracked the dietary fiber intake levels and incidence of periodontitis among 34,160 male US health professionals between the ages of 40-75 years.
Researchers observed that men in the highest category of dietary fiber consumption had lesser chances of getting periodontitis than their counterparts who ate little amounts of high fiber foods. The results of this study show that increased intake of foods packed with fiber may help reduce the incidence of periodontitis in men.
