Eating generous portions of whole grains regularly may be beneficial in the prevention of type 2 diabetes in postmenopausal women.
This study evaluated the risk of type 2 diabetes associated with the ingestion of whole grains in women. Researchers surveyed 72,215 postmenopausal women without a history of diabetes for 7.9 years. During the course of the study, 3,465 cases of type 2 diabetes were recorded.
Researchers found out that frequent consumers of whole grains exhibited low risk of having type 2 diabetes. The results of this study suggest that postmenopausal women who want to minimize their risk of type 2 diabetes should add more whole grains to their diets.
