Ardent consumption of foods rich in fiber may offer an individual significant protection against anxiety, depression, and psychological distress.
This study examined the influence of high fiber diets on the prevalence of psychological disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and psychological distress, among 3,362 Iranian adults. Researchers assessed submitted dietary questionnaires and mental health records of all the participants.
Researchers observed that the greater the amounts of fiber-rich foods consumed, the better protected individuals are from anxiety and psychological distress. In addition, dietary intake of fiber was also found to protect women from depression in this study. The findings of this study reveal that high fiber diets may guard against the occurrence of psychological disorders, including anxiety, depression, and psychological distress.
