Association Between Dietary Fatty Acid Pattern and Risk of Oral Cancer

Devout consumption of foods loaded with saturated fatty acids may fuel the development of oral (mouth) cancer.

This study evaluated whether increased dietary exposure to saturated fatty acids is tied to the development of oral (mouth) cancer. Researchers followed the eating patterns of 446 patients with oral cancer and 448 individuals without the disease.

Researchers found out that frequent consumers of foods packed with saturated fatty acids constituted a large proportion of patients with oral cancer in the study population. This study emphasized that habitual intake of foods rich in saturated fatty acids may be a contributing factors to the formation and spread of cancerous cells and tumors in the mouth.
