Passive smoking may make inflammatory bowel disease more likely to occur in children.
This study looked at passive smoking in relation to the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children. Researchers monitored the level of exposure to passive smoking among 72 children diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease and another 72 children without this condition.
Researchers observed that passive smoking increased a child's likelihood of developing inflammatory bowel disease. Evidence from this study show that children exposed to cigarette smoke passively are liable to come down with inflammatory bowel disease.
