Dietary salt intake and hypertension in an urban south Indian population--[CURES - 53]

Upping the intake of salty foods may drive up the incidence of hypertension in men and women.

This research work studied the high salt diet-hypertension association. Researchers matched the level of consumption of salty foods with the presence or absence of hypertension among 1,902 Indian men and women who volunteered for the Chennai Urban Rural Epidemiology Study (CURES).

Researchers noted that the more the frequency and amounts of salty foods consumed by participants, the greater their chances of becoming hypertensive. This study pointed out that fans of salty foods are prone to suffering from hypertension.
