Alcohol Consumption and Systemic Hypertension (from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

Alcohol lovers may be highly prone to have hypertension.

​This study investigated alcohol consumption in connection to the development of hypertension. With the aid of lifestyle questionnaires, researchers collated and analyzed information on the alcohol drinking habits of over 17,000 men and women. The blood pressures of all the participants were measured regularly during the course of the study.

Researchers found out that a high proportion of moderate and heavy consumers of alcohol had hypertension. The findings of this study showed that habitual drinking of alcohol may increase an individual's chances of suffering from hypertension.
