Cigarette smokers may have a high probability of suffering from sudden cardiac deaths.
The objective of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis on prospective studies that investigated the relationship between cigarette smoking and the risk of sudden cardiac death. Researchers from Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom compiled data from 12 prospective studies on the subject.
The team of investigators observed that current and former smokers demonstrated a greater risk of suffering from sudden cardiac death than never smokers did. The results of this study show that cigarette smoking may contribute positively to the occurrence of sudden cardiac death.
