Frequent consumption of berries may help to maintain a healthy cardiovascular profile and thwart the development of cardiovascular disease.
The aim of this research work was to study the effect of dietary intake of berries on the risk factors of cardiovascular disease using a meta-analytic approach. A total of 22 randomized controlled trials was included in this meta-analysis.
Researchers found out that high dietary ingestion of berries decreased blood levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, glycated hemoglobin (Hemoglobin A1c), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)—all of which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The results of this study show that a diet rich in berries may help to improve cardiovascular profile and inhibit the onset of cardiovascular disease.
