Decreased coronary heart disease risk is associated with regular intake of large servings of whole grain cereal foods.
This study assessed the consumption of cereal grains in relation to coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. Researchers evaluated data obtained from 5 large cohort studies conducted in the USA, Finland, and Norway. They found out that high consumption of cereal grains, such as oat and bran, decreased the risk of developing coronary heart disease. The results of this study suggest that diets rich in whole grain cereal foods may be beneficial in the prevention of coronary heart disease.
