High intake of dairy products may elevate prostate cancer development, progression, and mortality risk.
This research work was carried out to determine the relationship between dairy product consumption and prostate cancer development, progression, and mortality risk in U.S male physicians. Using data obtained from Physicians Health Study and case-only survival analysis, researchers evaluated the diets of 21,660 healthy males and prostate cancer patients.
Researchers observed a greater incidence of non-aggressive prostate cancer in participants who consumed large quantities of total dairy products and low-fat (skim) milk. In addition, high intake of whole milk was strongly associated with elevated lethal prostate cancer development and mortality risk. These results show that high consumption of dairy products may increase the incidence of non-aggressive and fatal prostate cancer development and mortality in U.S male physicians.
