Association between dietary inflammatory index, and cause-specific mortality in the MONICA/KORA Augsburg Cohort Study

Sticking to a pro-inflammatory diet may reduce the life expectancy of middle-aged and elderly men and women.

This study ascertained the correlation between regular eating of pro-inflammatory foods and the probability of suffering from premature deaths arising from chronic diseases. Researchers monitored the dietary and mortality records of more than 1,200 middle-aged and elderly men and women.

Data analysis revealed that consistent consumption of pro-inflammatory foods raised a participant's risk of dying from cancer and other chronic disease. This study pointed out that high compliance with a pro-inflammatory diet may shorten the lifespan of middle-aged and older adults.
