Generous consumption of pro-inflammatory foods may facilitate the onset of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, in men and women.
This study estimated the risk of dementia associated with the intake of pro-inflammatory foods. Researchers used validated food frequency questionnaires to assess the inflammatory potentials of the diets consumed by 166,377 UK men and women whose mental health was followed over a 9-year period.
Researchers found a high proportion of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, among top consumers of pro-inflammatory foods. This study recognized that following a high inflammatory diet may make an individual more likely to suffer from dementia.
