High compliance with a healthy plant-based diet may help guard against the onset of fatty liver disease.
This research work studied the plant-based diet-fatty liver connection hypothesis. Using dietary questionnaires, researchers collected and analyzed the dietary choices of more than 18,000 men and women. The liver function tests and fatty liver index of all the participants were regularly measured throughout the duration of the study.
Researchers observed that habitual consumers of healthy plant foods exhibited better liver function tests and lower chances of developing fatty liver disease than their counterparts who refrained from these foods. This study further emphasized the importance of healthy plant-based diets in the maintenance of liver function and prevention of fatty liver disease.
