Eating a vegetarian diet in midlife is tied to reduced risk of dementia years later.
This study determined whether a middle-aged individual's choice of diet will affect his/her chances of suffering from dementia later in life. Researchers monitored the diet and the onset of dementia among 5,710 Taiwanese middle-aged men and women over a 9-year period. A total of 121 cases of dementia were recorded during the course of the study.
Researchers found low rates of dementia in the vegetarian group. This study emphasizes the role of vegetarian diet in preventing the onset of dementia among middle-aged men and women.
