Effect of vegetarianism on development of gall stones in women.

The chance of avoiding gallstones is higher in women who are vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians.

This study investigated how adopting a vegetarian lifestyle can affect a woman's chances of avoiding gallstones. Researchers analyzed the data of 632 women aged 40 to 69 years who underwent abdominal ultrasound and responded to questionnaires on their diets.

Researchers found a far higher incidence of gallstones among non-vegetarians compared to vegetarians. The results of this study strengthen the body of evidence supporting the protective effects of plant foods against the development of gallstones in women.
