Frequent ingestion of tomatoes may hinder the development of liver (hepatocellular) cancer.
This study examined whether a high tomato diet can be beneficial in the prevention of hepatocellular (liver) cancer. Researchers tracked the diet and health of more than 60,000 middle-aged and older Chinese adults for an average of 17.4 years.
Researchers discovered that habitual consumers of tomatoes exhibited a lower propensity to develop liver cancer. Data from this study indicate that adequate intake of tomatoes may provide individuals with additional layer of protection against liver cancer.
