Daily intake of soft drinks may facilitate the onset of anxiety and depression in adolescents.
This study examined the intake of soft drinks in relation to the development of anxiety and depression among adolescents. Researchers compared the soft drink consumption habits with the rate of occurrence of depression and anxiety among 8,226 Chinese adolescents.
Researchers noticed that participants who consumed soft drinks daily or more than 25 grams of sugar per day from soft drinks were more likely to be depressed and anxious compared to their colleagues who refrained from taking these beverages. This study further strengthens the evidence that high intake of soft drinks may put an individual on the path to depression and anxiety.
