The likelihood of having childhood obesity may be high among offspring whose mother consumed caffeine frequently during pregnancy.
This study analyzed the role maternal intake of caffeine during pregnancy play in the development of obesity in offspring. Researchers compared the frequency of consumption of caffeine among 829 pregnant women with the incidence of obesity in their children.
Researchers noted that pregnant women who took caffeine regularly had 87% higher chances of having offspring who went on to develop obesity during childhood. In conclusion, maternal use of caffeine during pregnancy may increase the odds of giving birth to children who will suffer from obesity.
