Light, moderate, and heavy drinkers of alcohol are more likely to develop gout than non-consumers of alcoholic beverages.
This research work evaluated the relationship between alcohol consumption and the risk of gout by meta-analysis. Data extracted from 17 studies that examined 42,924 cases of gout were analyzed in this meta-analysis. Researchers observed a greater risk of gout among subject who regularly consumed small, moderate and high amounts of alcohol. The findings of this study indicate that consistent consumption of alcohol may increase an individual’s chances of developing gout.
