Adequate intake of foods with high fiber content may help guard against the development of metabolic syndrome.
This study examined the effect of high ingestion of dietary fiber on the odds of developing metabolic syndrome using a meta-analytic approach. A group of scientists followed and evaluated 28,241 subjects with regard to their dietary choices and metabolic syndrome odds ratios. The research team discovered that the risk of developing metabolic syndrome was low in individuals on high-fiber diets. The findings of this meta-analysis support the hypothesis that higher intake of fiber-rich foods is associated with reduced metabolic syndrome risk.
