Associations between fruit and vegetable intakes and incident depression in middle-aged and older adults from 10 diverse international longitudinal cohorts

A fruity diet may help fend off depression in middle-aged and elderly men and women.

This study estimated the odds of depression based on the frequency of consumption fruits and vegetables. A total of 7,801 middle-aged and elderly men and women enrolled for this study and reported symptoms of depression and their fruit and vegetable intake levels using validated questionnaires.

Researchers found out habitual consumers of fruits had low tendency to suffer from depression. The results from this study further affirmed that regular ingestion of fruits may help guard against the onset of depression in middle-aged and older men and women.
