Individuals who regularly consume high red meat diets are more likely to develop stomach cancer than those who are rare- or non-consumers of red meat.
This study investigated the relationship between red meat consumption and the incidence of stomach cancer. Data extracted from 18 studies that examined 1,228,327 subjects were analyzed in this meta-analysis.
Researchers observed a higher risk of stomach cancer among subjects in the highest quartile of red meat intake than those in the lowest quartile. Ingestion of additional 100g of red meat per day was found to increase stomach cancer risk by 17% in this study. The results of this meta-analysis reveal that frequent consumption of red meat is associated with elevated stomach cancer risk.
