Association between dietary inflammatory index and oral cancer risk: A systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis

The odds of having oral cancer may increase significantly among devout consumers of proinflammatory diets.

This meta-analysis synthesized evidence from published studies that examined the link between dietary intake of proinflammatory foods and the occurrence of oral (mouth) cancer. Researchers sifted through data obtained from 6,415 men and women who took part in 5 studies.

Researchers found out that oral cancer risk went up to as high as 135% with generous consumption of proinflammatory foods. This study demonstrated that sticking to a high inflammatory diet may trigger the development and spread of cancerous cells and tumors in the mouth.
