Association between inflammatory potential of diet and self-reported severe headache or migraine: A cross-sectional study of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Eating of pro-inflammatory foods regularly may propel an individual on the path to suffering from severe headaches and migraine attacks repeatedly.

​Are consumers of high inflammatory diets at risk of having severe headaches and migraine attacks? This study offered to provide answer to the above question. Researchers compared episodes of severe headaches and migraines with the level of consumption of pro-inflammatory foods in a study group comprising of over 10,000 US men and women.

Researchers discovered that avid eaters of pro-inflammatory foods reported having frequent and severe episodes of headaches and migraine attacks. "The inflammatory potential of the diet is associated with severe headache or migraine in US adults," the authors noted.
