Association of dietary inflammatory index and the SARS-CoV-2 infection incidence, severity and mortality of COVID-19: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis

Indulgence in proinflammatory foods may increase an individual's susceptibility to severe form of COVID-19 infection

Can our dietary choices influence our risk of contracting and developing severe COVID-19 infection? This meta-analysis of 5 studies sought to provide answer to the above question.

After assessing the eating habits of 12,081 COVID-19 patients and 185,848 individuals without the disease, researchers discovered that consumers of proinflammatory foods were prone to not only contracting COVID-19 infection but also having severe form of the disease. This study demonstrated that consuming a high inflammatory diet can further aggravate an individual's likelihood of suffering from severe COVID-19 infection.
