Cigarette smoking and pancreas cancer risk: an evaluation based on a systematic review of epidemiologic evidence among the Japanese population.

Pancreatic cancer is more likely to occur in cigarette smokers than in non-smokers.

This study examined the association between cigarette smoking and the development of pancreatic cancer. Researchers reviewed data and evidence extracted from 4 cohort and 3 case-control studies. They discovered that cigarette smokers had higher risk of pancreatic cancer than non-smokers. The findings of this meta-analysis reveal that cigarette smoking may promote the development of cancerous cells in the pancreas.
