Eating cruciferous vegetables may cut down an older woman's odds of suffering from calcification of the abdominal aorta.
This study examined the occurrence of abdominal aortic calcification in elderly women based on the rate of consumption of cruciferous vegetables. Researchers compared the incidence of abdominal aortic calcification between consumers and non-consumers of cruciferous vegetables.
Researchers observed that women on high cruciferous vegetables had better chances of preventing calcification of the abdominal aorta than their counterparts who refrained from eating these plant foods. In conclusion, "this study strengthens the hypothesis that higher intake of cruciferous vegetables may protect against vascular calcification."
