Habitual consumption of mushroom may significantly slash the risk of dementia in elderly individuals.
This study investigated the relationship between high dietary ingestion of mushroom and the prevalence of dementia among elderly individuals in Japan. A total of 13,230 men and women aged 65 years and above participated in this study and were assessed for their dietary choices and rate of occurrence of dementia.
Researchers found out that individuals on high mushroom diets had better chances of avoiding dementia than their counterparts who ate little or none of these plant foods. This study provides evidence that eating generous portions of mushroom frequently may help to ward off dementia in elderly men and women.
