Consuming alcohol more than 4 times per week can edge an individual closer to a diagnosis of benign laryngeal disease.
This study addressed the concern that alcohol drinking can promote the development of benign laryngeal disease. Researchers estimated the risk of benign laryngeal disease among 3,141 Korean men and women based on their frequency of alcohol consumption.
Participants who drank alcohol more than 4 times per week were found to have greater risk of having benign laryngeal disease than their counterparts who refrained from consuming alcohol. This study demonstrated that the habitual use of alcohol may trigger the development of benign laryngeal disease in men and women.
